Movie Review: Nerve

Screen Shot 2016-08-02 at 10.41.43 PMI saw this movie the day after its release date: on July 28th,2016. In short: it was an awesome film. After seeing the trailers, I expected a lot more romance. But this is no love story. Luckily, there is so much action and drama within the film. Everything surrounding Vee (played by Emma Roberts) seems to be falling apart all at different times—so there is never a dull moment. If you have never seen a trailer, Nerve is a game where people sign up to play and make money from dares, or to watch the players and pay a fee. The intent of the game is to get the most watchers (comparable to instagram followers) and to lose you either fail to complete a dare or you refuse to do it.

Vee originally used Nerve as a way to prove to people that she isn’t just a sidekick to her Cheerleading-Captain BFF. In the midst of angrily playing against her friend, she finds a love interest who just happens to also be playing Nerve. When they pair-up they are off on the adventure of a lifetime, and this adventure just happens to be filmed live for everyone in Vee’s school to see. There are different human villains at each point in the movie but the real mischief-maker is the game itself. It’s a thrilling film that will have you hooked ’til the end.

    1. Thank you so much for the encouragement! Last week I had a little time off and after seeing the ads I knew this was a movie I wanted to watch.
